The quest for short term solutions to the problems of now is inexorably linked to the shallow minds that constrain progress. The findings of these "boys" with their expensive "toys" have the potential of unlocking secrets that could sustain our long-term survival, and those without the education nor knowledge to dispute this should remain on the sidelines and watch. less

This device could possibly bring us closer to understanding how the known universe was formed. How anyone can call this a waste of money is beyond me. Perhaps the most important element of humanity is our need and desire to understand the world around us. I see a lot of false dilemma arguments, and religion inspired pseudoscience arguing against this machine but nothing of any substance. less

if the scientists say they know it is safe it follows that they are aware of the outcome of this machine. And, if that is the case, they must know what is going to happen and hence, why do they need to do the experiment in the first place. The truth is they do not know what is going to happen but their scientific quest and drive has overcome the rational need for the safety of this planet. I did not really believe all the 2012 hype before i realised what was going on at CERN. This is the very thing that all ancient civilisations have warned of.

I highly recommend you do some further research into what the LHC is capable of and the possibilities it represents other then what this article says alone. The potential for scientific, technological and medical advances that are brought about by this machine is staggering! No test of this nature has ever been conducted on this scale and to this effect (realize these two factors are everything in regard to measuring the results of a test, too small a scale or too little of an effect and you have nothing to gather data from) and the only theory even mentioned here is possible black holes.Read up on it. You will be amazed at what the worldwide scientific community is expecting from this thing. Was Space Exploration a waste? Answers to that quesiton vary to this day based on personal opinion. Has our understanding of our existence advanced exponentionally because of it? No doubt.
