Ok, so here is a question...how many of you sing the NA when u are present and hear it playing (I mean the whole 9 yards; hand over chest, standing proud and tall, etc)? I know I dont, anymore; the only thing I will do is stand...that is about it.
I'll sing the verse I know. Do you remember the guy (dwight) that sang it when Lee Rhyant was here? My body damn near went into shock from holding in laughter. He knew it about as well as I knew it. But i do stand up and stuff.
Ooops, just re-read your question..disregard the previous paragraph. in college i used to stand up with my fist up...now i just stand there...no hand over heart.
I'm unpatriotic as well....I don't wear flag lapel pins, I WILL NOT cover my heart, and I'd personally rather hear the black national anthem! I respect the song..no doubt...but I am no die hard fanatic that thinks my blood is red, white, & blue! I love my country..would NOT want to live anywhere else, but we got some major issues that need to be dealt with! But folks who get mad b/c you burn the flag, or sing the Natinal Anthem like a Step in the Name of Love song like R. Kelly did...lol...is no big deal to me...I'm like relax..it's a record..we are just following tradition and going through the motions..we really don't feel that passionately about it!
I'll stand. I know at TU we use to put our fist in the air. Now I just stand up and like others have millions of other things playing in my head. It's not that SERIOUS to me.
In regards to the BNA, I had to learn that attending a Baptist Church Convention. Had to break it down and tell what I thought each verse meant. So I respect it and when it's song, I'm usually intrigued and tuned in because a great gospel, jazz, etc. person is singing it.

Sorry SLA, I posted this again because your post didn't show up at first.
In the article it said "You cant replace the words of the National Anthem"...so they were mad.

At first I thought you were talking about the BNA. Asking if we stood up for it.

I stand up and that's about it. 110% of the time I'm thinking about a million other things when it's being played or somebody is singing it.
I usually just stand and if a lot of folks around me have there hand over there chest, I'll join in but, I'm thinking about something else.
