Faith writes about catching BIG & Lil' Kim in bed
Excerpt:"I don’t know what got into my head. But I decided that I needed to know once and for all what Big was really trying to do. On that night before Christmas, I drove to Big’s house on a mission to find out where I really stood. The security guard at the gate just waved me in when I pulled up. It was Christmas Eve and she’d seen me come into the complex with the kids, so I guess she didn’t think anything of it.I parked in the rear of Big’s town house and walked up to the garage. It was locked. I hadn’t been over to Big’s house a whole lot but I did know that you jiggle the garage door a certain way and unlock it.I got into the garage, where there was an elevator that would take me to both floors of Big’s duplex. There I was, rocking a black skully cap and a heavy goose-down jacket, tiptoeing into the elevator and pressing the button to go up to the second floor, where his bedroom was located.I got to Big’s bedroom door, turned the knob, and went inside. As soon as I saw a small lump next to Big’s large frame, I flew into a rage, ran over to the side of the bed, and pulled back the covers. I grabbed some chick our of the bed and started beating her ass. At some point, the chick’s wig came off in my hand; It was a short, cropped wig. I stopped throwing punches for a minute to get a good look at the chick I was beating up. It was Lil Kim. She was completely butt-naked, yelling as I pushed her around the room.“So you not fucking her, right?” I screamed at Big. “Yeah, you not messing with her anymore, right?”When they heard all the commotion, Cease, D-Roc, and Gutter came running into the room.‘Oh shit!” they yelled in unison. “It’s Faye! How the hell she get in here?”Big sat up in bed and pointed at Kim, who was standing in a corner of the room, trying to cover her naked body with her hands while I was still yelling at Big.“Yo, get her outta here,’ Big said. They led Kim out of the room and she screamed and cursed the whole way.It was absolutely crazy in that house. Kim was naked and being led somewhere to get dressed. I was still screaming on Big. Damion, Cease, and Gutter were laughing in amazement that I would be so bold. And Big looked like he was just too through with all of us.He sat up in bed shaking his head. Kim left the house and I stayed, talking to Big about why he couldn’t be honest with me about her.‘I thought it was all about Tiffany?” I asked. You still messing with Kim, too?” Big had nothing to say.I have to say I actually felt some pity for Kim. Big had a wife, and she settled for messing with him. Then he started dating Tiffany and Big had a wife and a mistress. And Kim still settled for being other other woman. It seemed pretty sad to settle for that. When I left a few hours later to get the kids, I noticed that Kim had taken my key to my Land Cruiser and scratched up my entire car, from the hood to the back bumper.Even though we ended up having sex that day, at that point I decided I was 100 percent through. I was not going to be a ride or die chick, always going to lengths to show Big how I felt. I was the mother of his child and his wife. But I was going to have to let go"

Crazy ...deranged .....OCHO PSYCHO
CINCINNATI (AP)—Maybe receiver Chad Johnson can go by the name that his head coach hates. The Cincinnati Bengals receiver has legally changed his name to Chad Javon Ocho Cinco in Broward County, Fla., a switch that became official this week, according to several media reports. Johnson, who lives in Miami, didn’t return a message left on his cell phone Friday night.“It’s something I don’t think anyone has ever done before,” he told the team’s Web site. “Have I ever had a reason for why I do what I do? I’m having fun.”Two years ago, Johnson gave himself the moniker—a reference in Spanish to his No. 85—and put it on the back of his uniform before a game. Quarterback Carson Palmer ripped it off before the kickoff. After the season, coach Marvin Lewis—who dislikes Johnson’s attention-getting stunts—referred to the receiver as “Ocho Psycho.”Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said the Bengals had no comment on the matter.Johnson has been a concern for the Bengals this season. He unsuccessfully lobbied for a trade in the offseason, threatening to sit out if he didn’t get his way. When the Bengals refused, he relented and showed up for minicamp, but complained that his right ankle was bothering him.He had bone spurs removed from the ankle and was limited at the start of training camp. In the second preseason game, he landed awkwardly and temporarily dislocated his left shoulder. Johnson is wearing a harness and expects to play in the season opener against Baltimore.

PUTIN ACCUSES U.S. IN GEORGIA
Putin accuses U.S. in Georgia
Posted: 11:47 AM ET
SOCHI, Russia (CNN) — Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, insisting that his country was not responsible for the conflict with Georgia, Thursday accused the United States of orchestrating the conflict for political purposes.
In an exclusive interview with CNN in the Black Sea city of Sochi, Putin said his defense officials had given him serious reason to believe that U.S. citizens had been engaged in combat with Russian forces in the breakaway Georgian region of South Ossetia.
The Russian premier said this implied the conflict was a Washington operation — one aimed at providing a U.S. presidential candidate with a talking point intended to distract Americans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the struggling U.S. economy.
White House spokeswoman Dana Perino blasted Putin’s statements, saying, “To suggest that the United States orchestrated this on behalf of a political candidate just sounds not rational.”–From CNN’s Matthew Chance
Strawberry Letter: I Married My Brother
Subject: I Married My Brother
Good Morning Steve and the Morning show family, I actually do not know where to start with my letter. I guess I will start will saying I have been in tears everyday for the last 4 months. I guess I will also start by giving you a little history. First of all, my husband and I have been married for almost 2 years. We met in college when I was a freshman and he was a junior. When we met, we realized we had a lot in common. We both grew up in the same city just on different sides of town. So we didn't know each other. We were raised by strong single black women that made sure we had the best, we were raised in the church, and we both wanted to get legal degrees. We got married shortly after I graduated college and we relocated to Chicago in hopes of attending law school. When we got to Chicago, I became a nurse instead and my husband got a position at a legal firm (long story short, we didn't make it to law school). We both are devout Christians and we have been for most of our life. We decided that in order to really move foward in our spiritual life, that we needed to forgive all the people we had problems with includeing our fathers. We didn't realize how much that unforgiveness impacted our own lives. I made it a point to forgive my father in my heart because I knew it would be difficult to find him. My husband, however, got in touch with his father and made arrangements to meet up with him when we went home for our family reunion. They decided to meet up at the park where the reunion was to be held because they felt that was a neutral spot. We went home for the family reunion in May.. To my surprise, my father was there. Even though I hadn't seen him in almost 16 yrs, I knew it was him. I remembered the goal me and my husband had set for ourselves so I agreed to go somewhere and talk with him as long as we remained in the park. After about 45 minutes of catching up, I finally asked him what he was doing at the park on that day of all days. He mentioned that he was there to meet someone special in his life. I figured it was probably just another women. Just then, my husband walked up and said, I see you met my father. At that point, I did pass out (literally). I woke up in the hospital a couple of hours later. After a week, my husband went back to Chicago. I remained in our hometown with my mother. I was not ready to face all the issues on my plate and I couldn't just go back to Chicago with my husband/brother. After 3 mons, I am absolutely confused about what to do. Even though we have only been married for 2 years, we have been together for almost 5. I can't imagine my life without him. However, I get sick to my stomach when I think about the fact that I have been sleeping with my brother for so long. I know deep down it isn't really our fault. I mean we did everything right. I know the obvious thing to do is divorce him. But that is easier said than done. I am not torn between divorce and my religious beliefs because we got married under false pretenses. My problem is, I am torn between doing the obvious thing and dealing with all these emotions at the same time. Please tell me what to do. I don't think I have anymore tears left to cry.

GEAUX TIGERS
NCAA Football Power Rankings
1
Ohio State Buckeyes (11-2 in 2007)All eyes Saturday will be on ... well, Pryor, if he gets in the game, but also DE Lawrence Wilson. The highly touted junior, who broke his leg in last year's season opener and missed the rest of the year, steps in for departed star Vernon Gholston.First game: Saturday vs. Youngstown State.
2
Oklahoma Sooners (11-3)The Sooners' defensive line is impressive. DE Auston English was a dominant pass rusher when healthy, DT DeMarcus Granger was an All-Big 12 honoree prior to his Fiesta Bowl suspension and DT Gerald McCoy was the Big 12's top defensive freshman.First game: Saturday vs. Chattanooga.
3
Georgia Bulldogs (11-2)Assuming the Dawgs put away Georgia Southern early Saturday, star tailback Knowshon Moreno will likely give way to a pair of backups already being touted as the next in line -- redshirt freshman Caleb King and true frosh Richard Samuel.First game: Saturday vs. Georgia Southern.
4
USC Trojans (11-2)It will be interesting to see how the Trojans' tailback rotation plays out early in the season. It's no secret Joe McKnight will see the field often, but will offseason standout Allen Bradford supplant the more experienced C.J. Gable and Stafon Johnson?First game: Saturday at Virginia.
5
Missouri Tigers (12-2)Despite returning a largely veteran team, eighth-year coach Gary Pinkel plans to play as many as eight true freshmen this season, the most of his tenure. High-flying receiver Jerrell Jackson has attracted the most attention so far. First game: Saturday vs. Illinois.
6
LSU Tigers (12-2)It speaks to the level of LSU's recruiting these past few years that a team can lose as many veteran standouts as the Tigers did -- 13 starters -- and still appear to be loaded at nearly every position. QB and cornerback are the concerns.First game: Saturday vs. Appalachian State.
7
Florida Gators (9-4)The Gators may well contend for the national championship, but their preseason standing took a hit due to the season-ending injury of TE Cornelius Ingram and the fact that star WR Percy Harvin missed most of fall camp recovering from a heel injury.First game: Saturday vs. Hawaii.
8
Texas Tech Red Raiders (9-4)The bar gets set pretty high for Mike Leach's quarterbacks. Having thrown for 5,705 yards and 48 touchdowns last season, Leach says of third-year starter Graham Harrell: "We expect him to do the same thing -- a few more yards perhaps."First game: Saturday vs. Eastern Washington.
9
Auburn Tigers (9-4)Is it a good sign or a bad sign that offensive coordinator Tony Franklin has yet to choose a starting quarterback between sophomore Kodi Burns and juco transfer Chris Todd? Burns is more of a dual threat but Todd is a veteran of the spread.First game: Saturday vs. Louisiana-Monroe.
10
Clemson Tigers (9-4)There's technically nothing at stake in Saturday's opener, but is this the biggest game of Tommy Bowden's tenure? All the momentum of a contract extension and preseason ACC favorite status could go out the window were he to get upstaged by Nick Saban.First game: Saturday vs. Alabama.
11
Tennessee Volunteers (9-4)By all accounts, Tennessee's offense will look different than at any time during Phillip Fulmer's 16-year tenure thanks to innovative new coordinator Dave Clawson. TE Brandon Warren, a freshman standout at Florida State, was ruled eligible just in time.First game: Monday at UCLA.
12
Wisconsin Badgers (9-4)Three years after setting the Kansas State freshman passing record (1,365) as a six-game starter, Allan Evridge -- now a fifth-year senior -- has finally reclaimed a starting quarterback job. He is one of the few new faces for a team that returns 19 starters.First game: Saturday vs. Akron.
13
West Virginia Mountaineers (11-2)It seems hard to believe now that Steve Slaton was once a more-touted Heisman candidate than Pat White. With all due respect to Slaton and current tailback Noel Devine, White is the unquestioned heart and soul of the Mountaineers' offense.First game: Saturday vs. Villanova.
14
Texas Longhorns (10-3)It's hard to remember the last time the Longhorns entered a season with such unknown tailbacks. Looking to follow in the footsteps of Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson and Jammal Charles are sophomore Vondrell McGee and freshman Fozzy Whitaker.First game: Saturday vs. Florida Atlantic.
15
Kansas Jayhawks (12-1)The Jayhawks lost several of their most important players from last season -- RB Brandon McAnderson, T Anthony Collins, DT James McClinton and CB Aqib Talib -- but I wouldn't expect a drastic drop-off. The schedule is much tougher, however.First game: Saturday vs. Florida International.
16
Penn St. Nittany Lions (9-4)The more I read about it, the more I think Jay Paterno's "Spread HD" will be a hit. I liked what I saw of QB Darryl Clark in last year's bowl game, we know all about Derrick Williams and the receivers, and I'm told freshman RB Stephfon Green is the real deal.First game: Saturday vs. Coastal Carolina.
17
Arizona St. Sun Devils (10-3)ASU could field a potent passing game with the return of four-year QB Rudy Carpenter and top WRs Michael Jones and Chris McGaha, along with the addition of touted freshman WR Gerell Robinson. But the O-line can't allow 55 sacks again.First game: Saturday vs. Northern Arizona.
18
Brigham Young Cougars (11-2)The Cougars seem to be nearly everyone's projected "BCS buster." Personally, I have my doubts BYU will make it through the season undefeated, and it remains to be seen whether the pollsters would consider ranking a one-loss mid-major in the top 12.First game: Saturday vs. Northern Iowa.
19
Oregon Ducks (9-4)It appears the Ducks will be without expected starting QB Nate Costa for at least the first week with an as-yet undiagnosed knee injury. While unfortunate for Costa, Mike Bellotti has to feel in pretty good hands with his backup, Sun Bowl MVP Justin Roper.First game: Saturday vs. Washington.
20
South Florida Bulls (9-4)We know Jim Leavitt's team has talent (see QB Matt Grothe, DE George Selvie) and can play with the big boys (see last year's upsets of Auburn and West Virginia). What I'd like to finally see this year is some consistency -- no three-game losing streaks.First game: Saturday vs. Tennessee-Martin.
21
Illinois Fighting Illini (9-4)Ron Zook says this team will be better than last year's, and QB Juice Williams and WR Arrelious Benn are the primary causes for excitement. I will remain skeptical, however, until we see how the Illini plan to replace Rashard Mendenhall's 1,681 yards.First game: Saturday vs. Missouri.
22
Oregon State Beavers (9-4)Two names to know prior to the Beavers' Thursday-night opener: Redshirt freshman RB Ryan McCants, who's been dubbed a smaller Steven Jackson, and speedy, 5-foot-7 true frosh Jacquizz Rodgers, cut from the same cloth as older brother James.First game: Thursday vs. Stanford.
23
Pittsburgh Panthers (5-7)After watching a recent Panthers practice, I'm convinced that this is a bona fide top-25 team, with a superstar tailback (LeSean McCoy), a stud freshman receiver (Jonathan Baldwin) and a dominant D. But the O-line will keep them from rising much higher.First game: Saturday vs. Bowling Green.
24
Virginia Tech Hokies (11-3)Just how young are these Hokies? More than 40 percent of the travel roster for Saturday's opener against East Carolina in Charlotte consists of guys who have never played a college game. At least they have a solid, veteran QB in Sean Glennon.First game: Saturday vs. East Carolina.
25
Wake Forest Demon Deacons (9-4)Could this be Jim Grobe's best team yet? He's got a proven quarterback (Riley Skinner) and tailback (Josh Adams), nine returning defensive starters and an All-America kicker (Sam Swank). Finding some new playmakers on offense will be a key.First game: Saturday at Baylor.
I'd Be dayumed ...2 million for a yr..i dunno
It turns out Super Bowl XLII was Michael Strahan's final game after all. The recently retired perennial Pro Bowler told FOXSports.com exclusively that he has decided to remain retired and has turned down the Giants' offer to lure him back to action. "This has been one of the toughest nights of my life," Strahan said from Greece. "But after long deliberation and throwing around a million scenarios in my head for the past day, I think it's just best if I stay retired. "I have gone back and forth on this because as a player you'll always want to play, you'll never lose that urge to be out there. But I could only do this if I could commit 100 percent, physically, mentally, emotionally and I can't do that. I've tried to convince myself and my body to give it one more year, but in the end I just don't think I could turn it on like I need to again." Strahan and the team held discussions and he says the money was enough to do the deal. But in the end, it became a matter of whether or not he wanted to put his body through the rigors of another NFL season. "I really love my life now," he said. "It's great having nobody put a finger on me. You really put yourself through an awful lot in this league, more than people realize. "I've got a great home at FOX now and I think it's where I belong. I wish I could've had different news for Giants fans but I've known for a while I'm done." Strahan considered coming out of retirement to help the team after fellow Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora sustained a season-ending injury during the Giants' preseason game against the Jets on Saturday night. Strahan received a call early Monday from Giants GM Jerry Reese at the urging of co-owner Steven Tisch, who has a close relationship with Strahan. The Giants had been hoping for a repeat of last season, when Strahan missed all of training camp and preseason while deliberating whether to return for a 15th NFL season, then returned to help lead the Giants to their 3rd Super Bowl.

DENVER — Bill Clinton appeared to undermine Sen. Barack Obama again Tuesday. The former president, speaking in Denver, posed a hypothetical question in which he seemed to suggest that that the Democratic Party was making a mistake in choosing Obama as its presidential nominee. He said: "Suppose you're a voter, and you've got candidate X and candidate Y. Candidate X agrees with you on everything, but you don't think that candidate can deliver on anything at all. Candidate Y you agree with on about half the issues, but he can deliver. Which candidate are you going to vote for?"

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP)—Nine-year-old Jericho Scott is a good baseball player— too good, it turns out.
The right-hander has a fastball that tops out at about 40 mph. He throws so hard that the Youth Baseball League of New Haven told his coach that the boy could not pitch any more. When Jericho took the mound anyway last week, the opposing team forfeited the game, packed its gear and left, his coach said.
Officials for the three-year-old league, which has eight teams and about 100 players, said they will disband Jericho’s team, redistributing its players among other squads, and offered to refund $50 sign-up fees to anyone who asks for it. They say Jericho’s coach, Wilfred Vidro, has resigned.
But Vidro says he didn’t quit and the team refuses to disband. Players and parents held a protest at the league’s field on Saturday urging the league to let Jericho pitch.
“He’s never hurt any one,” Vidro said. “He’s on target all the time. How can you punish a kid for being too good?”
The controversy bothers Jericho, who says he misses pitching.
“I feel sad,” he said. “I feel like it’s all my fault nobody could play.”
Jericho’s coach and parents say the boy is being unfairly targeted because he turned down an invitation to join the defending league champion, which is sponsored by an employer of one of the league’s administrators.
Jericho instead joined a team sponsored by Will Power Fitness. The team was 8-0 and on its way to the playoffs when Jericho was banned from pitching.
“I think it’s discouraging when you’re telling a 9-year-old you’re too good at something,” said his mother, Nicole Scott. “The whole objective in life is to find something you’re good at and stick with it. I’d rather he spend all his time on the baseball field than idolizing someone standing on the street corner.”
League attorney Peter Noble says the only factor in banning Jericho from the mound is his pitches are just too fast.
“He is a very skilled player, a very hard thrower,” Noble said. “There are a lot of beginners. This is not a high-powered league. This is a developmental league whose main purpose is to promote the sport.”
Noble acknowledged that Jericho had not beaned any batters in the co-ed league of 8- to 10-year-olds, but say parents expressed safety concerns.
“Facing that kind of speed” is frighteneing for beginning players, Noble said.
League officials say they first told Vidro that the boy could not pitch after a game on Aug. 13. Jericho played second base the next game on Aug. 16. But when he took the mound Wednesday, the other team walked off and a forfeit was called.
League officials say Jericho’s mother became irate, threatening them and vowing to get the league shut down.
“I have never seen behavior of a parent like the behavior Jericho’s mother exhibited Wednesday night,” Noble said.
Scott denies threatening any one, but said she did call the police.
League officials suggested that Jericho play other positions, or pitch against older players or in a different league.
Local attorney John Williams was planning to meet with Jericho’s parents Monday to discuss legal options.
“You don’t have to be learned in the law to know in your heart that it’s wrong,” he said. “Now you have to be punished because you excel at something?”

Williams, however, is shirking responsibility and claims Rihanna's label Def Jam and manager Marc Jordan are to blame for the singer's financial woes.
"It's not my fault that she only has $20,000 to her name," Williams tells Blackarazzi.com. "I'm a professional Business Manager, I have a staff of more than a dozen, I have worked for many high-profile actors, musicians and multi-million dollar corporations. Why would I steal from Rihanna? I showed her all the paperwork and tried to explain to her the circumstances but she wouldn't listen.
"She called me all sorts of horrible names and stormed off. I now feel compelled to share with the world the background story as I will not allow my name to be slandered."
According to Williams, Def Jam has underfunded Rihanna, despite huge sales of her breakthrough single Umbrella and her third album Good Girl Gone Bad.
"Def Jam doesn't fund Rihanna properly, so Marc uses the money Rihanna makes from third-party endorsements and from tours to fund her album and music videos," Williams claims. "I don't want to disrespect Marc's name. He is a fantastic manager and genuinely believes in Rihanna.
"But he uses her money to fund her future projects because he believes he can break her in the world market."
Williams continues to shift focus to the popstar's manager and says Rihanna's sales are not as good as some might think.
"Her album sales are not nearly as close to her single sales and he knows that if she is only known as a singles artist she will only be as good as her last hit. Unfortunately, he didn't inform his client and I'm receiving the brunt of it."

Shaq accused of stalking female rapper
Some athletes have to get restraining orders against overzealous fans. For Shaquille O'Neal, it's the other way around.
Alexis Miller successfully had a restraining order granted against O'Neal by a judge in Atlanta, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Fulton County judge granted the order after reviewing the woman's allegations that O'Neal stalked her, threatened her with bodily harm and harassed her with phone calls in which he breathed heavily into the phone before hanging up.
Miller, a 23-year-old hip-hop artist known as MaryJane, also claimed that O'Neal said he would pay artists $50,000 each not to perform with her.
"It's been very difficult for her," L. David Wolfe, Miller's attorney, told the Journal-Constitution. "Her fears are not only for herself but also the people around her." He also described her as being traumatized by the recent events.
Miller said she ended her relationship with O'Neal last month. They had known each other about a year and a half and had become intimate over the past six to eight months, Wolfe said.
According to the paper, the court affidavit quotes an e-mail from O'Neal as saying, "I dnt no who the [expletive] u think u dealin wit u will neva be heard from one phone call is I gotta make now try me. Sho me."
Under terms of the temporary restraining order, O'Neal is prohibited from having any contact or even coming within 200 yards of her. Both parties are scheduled to appear before another judge on Sept. 4 to determine whether the restrictions should remain.
O'Neal filed for divorce from his wife Shaunie in 2007 but recently indicated he wanted to reconcile with her.

Story Highlights
Natural gas drilling has become widespread across the Fort Worth, Texas, area
Region sits on the Barnett Shale, where gas is abundant
Preacher says gas has helped his church: "What a God we serve"
Opponent says "gas drilling ... has no business in an urban area"
By Ed LavanderaCNN
FORT WORTH, Texas (CNN) -- Bishop Kenneth Spears always thought gifts from God came from above. He never imagined that the gifts would be hiding under his church in Fort Worth, Texas.
"The Bible says, 'Every place the sole of your foot should tread upon, I'll give it to you,' " said Spears, of the First St. John Missionary Baptist Church. "I walked and believed that if I prayed over that ground, if I walked over that ground, something good would come of it."
In 2006, he learned that all 15 acres of the church's property are on one of the largest natural gas fields in the country, known as the Barnett Shale.
"What a God we serve," Spears said, followed by great laughter. Watch an oil drilling bonanza »
Spears' church and thousands of residents around the Fort Worth area are cashing in on a unique urban drilling bonanza.
With the development of horizontal drilling technology and with gas prices sky-high, energy companies are racing to tap into the Barnett Shale natural gas field.
The Barnett Shale is the most-productive natural gas field in such a highly populated area spanning 5,000 square miles. The drilling here is being watched closely in Louisiana and Pennsylvania, which also have natural gas fields under urban areas. See where the Barnett Shale is located »
Energy companies in the Fort Worth area are going door-to-door, negotiating with people for access to mineral rights under their homes. That means residents are offered a bonus check and future monthly royalty checks.
Spears' church received a $32,000 bonus and receives between $3,000 and $10,000 a month in royalty checks. The money is helping pay for a multimillion-dollar expansion and a new sanctuary.
"We're making a lot of millionaires up here in the Barnett Shale area," said Julie Wilson, vice president of Chesapeake Energy, one of the energy companies drilling wells in the Fort Worth area.
The Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce says the urban drilling craze has created more than 50,000 jobs and will pump nearly $1 billion in tax revenue into the city's economy.
But opponents of this urban drilling say that it shouldn't be done in populated areas and that the promises of many people getting rich aren't true. They say that for most people, the payouts are modest.
How much money residents get depends on how much property they own and how much gas -- if any -- is found. The dollar figure also depends on eachresident's negotiating skills with energy companies, experts say. The money can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands.
"It's a divide and conquer strategy by going around and giving everybody enough money to keep them quiet. Hush money is what I call it," said Don Young, a community activist who operates a blog called FWCanDo.org. "Gas drilling is very dirty; it's very dangerous."
To 72-year-old Jerry Horton, the drilling is a threat to her cherished front yard. To move the natural gas through the city, Chesapeake Energy needs to bury a pipeline in her yard. She's been offered almost $13,000, up from the $3,000 she was initially offered.
"I wouldn't sell my front yard for a million dollars," said Horton, a retired artist who has lived in the same house for 53 years.
Chesapeake Energy recently sued Horton for access to her front yard, claiming eminent domain. The company says pipelines are crucial to keep the natural gas flowing and allow people to cash in the profits under the ground.
"I understand we need to pump our own oil, our own gas," Horton said. "But we don't need to destroy our homes, all of our trees and blow ourselves up. Who's going to be here to enjoy the gas then?"
Energy companies say that drilling for natural gas is safe and done in an environmentally friendly way. But opponents say the drilling is dangerous and a threat to the environment.
"Gas drilling ... has no business in an urban area. So I don't want to contribute to a company that's doing that to my community," said Young, who refused to let his property be used.
While energy companies maintain the drilling is not a threat to homes, some question the impact of drilling beneath neighborhoods. Young and other activists also are concerned about air and water pollution, soil contamination, health and safety issues and the loss of green space and wildlife.
"We're guinea pigs," Young said. "We're the first large metropolitan area ever to have intense natural gas drilling going on in our neighborhood, right in the heart of the city."

(CNN) -- Today was my first day in elementary school.
My wife and I have been married seven-and-a-half years and we don't have any children. But two weeks ago, we persuaded one of my three sisters to send her four girls -- ages 9, 7 and twin 4-year-olds -- to Chicago, Illinois, so we could take care of them and get them caught up academically.
I take seriously my role as a godfather and uncle. For a lot of folks, being a godfather is all about a ceremony and giving gifts on birthdays and Christmas.
But if you remember the admonition of the priest or pastor, the purpose of a godfather is to stand in the gap for the parents when they are unable to do so. That has surely been the case in my family. The consequence of drama in a marriage has left the two older nieces behind academically.
So we decided that it's time for them to be in a stable environment , immersed in academics. That's what took me to the nearby Chicago public school.
As I filled out the paperwork and looked through the folder provided by the school, I came across a variety of forms: for a school fundraiser at a restaurant, a raffle, and an application to join the school's Parent-Teacher Association.
For me, there is nothing more important than that PTA application.
In a world where the two presidential candidates spar over education funding, merit pay for teachers and whether vouchers are a good idea, a lot of folks spend their time complaining. They talk about failing schools and what administrators should be doing, and how teachers don't care like they did back in the day.
I'm sure you've heard the complaints before.
Trust me, I get it when folks say schools need more funding. But I also remember a conversation a few years ago on the syndicated television show America's Black Forum. Education advocate Jonathan Kozol was arguing that the issue is money, and Ohio's Wilberforce University president, the Rev. Floyd Flake, said that is just one of the critical elements.
Flake, a former congressman who runs his own school in New York, asked why schools in Washington, D.C. can spend more than $10,000 per child and kids fail, yet his New York school was spending $5,400 at the time and more than 75 percent were passing.
Kozol argued that one reason was Flake's charisma as a leader, but Flake contended -- and I agree -- that success is related to a nurturing environment where parents are mandated to take an active role in their child's education.
I thought of this in May during a conversation on my Chicago radio show with Rufus Williams, president of the Chicago Board of Education. A lot of parents called in, angry with the Chicago school system because they didn't find out until graduation that their child would not graduate because of failing scores.
The phone lines lit up and they bombarded Williams with all kinds of insults.
He promised to get them answers. The next day, he had them.
Apparently, parents were sent reminders during every report-card period when their child was at risk of failing.
But the parents couldn't say the dog ate the sheet before it came through the door. The parents had come to the school themselves to pick up the cards, and the warning was attached.
So the real deal was that these parents were informed of their child's poor classroom performance, but chose to overlook it.
Guess what? The phones were silent. Oh how the truth hurt.
The reality is that whether it's the 390,000 kids in Chicago public schools, or millions across the country, no school can educate the next generation alone. It requires committed teachers, but also informed and active parents who are willing to make sacrifices.
It would have been easy for my wife and me to live in our empty nest, take get-away trips on the weekend, or save a ton of dough and retire early. But there was no way I could sit back as those four girls were denied even a fighting chance at a great education so they could live their lives to the fullest.
One of my first questions was related to the dates of the parent-teacher conferences. I wanted to plug them into my Blackberry immediately. Those sessions are a priority. I can guarantee you the teachers will know me by name, and not just because I'm on CNN or WVON Radio.
See, I had good role models: my parents. They didn't go to college and have six-figure jobs. They simply cared about the education of their five children.
So, the nation's children are preparing for another school year. The parents must do the same thing.
My nieces begin September 2. We guardians and parents need to get our minds right, and make the decision now whether we are going to be those who work for solutions or those who just whine about the deficiencies.
Show up on the first day and do not make it your last. There is no greater gift you can provide your children, nieces, nephews or grandchildren than your full attention to their educations. As the United Negro College Fund has said for years: A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Last Dragon Star Julius Carry III (Sho'nuff) Dead?

"Am I the meanest? Sho’Nuff! Am I the prettiest? Sho’Nuff! Am I the baddest mo-fo, low-down, around this town? Sho’Nuff! Well, who am I? Sho’Nuff! I can’t hear you! Sho’Nuff! The Shogun of Harlem!"
I got word earlier tonight that Julius Carry III (known by many as Sho'nuff, the villain in the movie Last Dragon) passed away on August 19th. The cause of death was not announced, and I couldn't find any news outlets carrying a story about him (not surprising, though). Have you heard anything?

Politics as Usual!
Tell me, what's the difference between what Russia is doing and what we did to Iraq? In fact, Georgia is the party responsible for starting this conflict in the first place, so Russia is simply smacking them up with the big hand for getting out of place and yes maybe they do want regime change so that this doesn't happen again.
My question is, WTF does the U.S. have to do with this and Why TF are the GOP war-mongers wanting it with Russia? We can't Fk with them at the present time! We have no money nor a ready military! Why is the GOP trying to demolish America as we know it? What is going on in this world...could we be getting close.....

Good sheit....I HOPE FWISD is Next
Texas school district to let teachers carry guns A Texas school district will let teachers bring guns to class this fall, the district's superintendent said on Friday, in what experts said appeared to be a first in the United States. The board of the small rural Harrold Independent School District unanimously approved the plan and parents have not objected, said the district's superintendent, David Thweatt.School experts backed Thweatt's claim that Harrold, a system of about 110 students 150 miles northwest of Fort Worth, may be the first to let teachers bring guns to the classroom.Thweatt said it is a matter of safety."We have a lock-down situation, we have cameras, but the question we had to answer is, 'What if somebody gets in? What are we going to do?" he said. "It's just common sense."Teachers who wish to bring guns will have to be certified to carry a concealed handgun in Texas and get crisis training and permission from school officials, he said.Recent school shootings in the United States have prompted some calls for school officials to allow students and teachers to carry legally concealed weapons into classrooms. The U.S. Congress once barred guns at schools nationwide, but the U.S. Supreme Court struck the law down, although state and local communities could adopt their own laws. Texas bars guns at schools without the school's permission.

Pressure burst pipes
By Michael Levenson, Globe Staff TAUNTON -- The housing crunch has caused anguish and anxiety for millions of Americans. For Carlene Balderrama, a 53-year-old wife and mother, the pressure was apparently too much to bear. Police say that Balderrama shot herself Tuesday afternoon 90 minutes before her foreclosed home on Duffy Drive was scheduled to be sold at auction. Chief Raymond O'Berg said that Balderrama faxed a letter to her mortgage company at 2:30 p.m., telling them that "by the time they foreclosed on the house today she'd be dead."The mortgage company notified police, who found her body at 3:30 p.m. The auction had been scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Balderrama used her husband's high-powered rifle, O'Berg said. She left a note for her family saying they should "take the [life] insurance money and pay for the house," O'Berg said. Neighbors on this forested side street said Balderrama had lived in the two-story, brown-shingled, raised ranch for about four years with her husband, John, who is a plumber, and their 24-year-old son.Joe Whitney, who works with her husband, said that Balderrama handled the bills in the household and that the husband was unaware of the foreclosure. "John didn't even know about it, that's the surprise," Whitney said outside the home, where he had come to comfort the family. "It's just one of those awful, awful tragic events." Noreen Mendes said she often spoke to Balderrama on her morning walks on Duffy Drive and described her as "quiet and sweet." "I never would have guessed that she had any problems whatsoever," Mendes said. "All I can do this morning is pray and pray and pray."

Jesse Jackson Speaks On Obama, Race, and the N-word
-5 latest comments
Jesse clearly has beef with Barack, as indicated in the rage of his comments and hand jesture while at Fox. I don't agree that government involvement is necessary for us to solve the problems in our community. I believe black folks can do it for themselves, no hand-outs. History has shown us to be creative and resourceful. It a matter of pride and self-determination.
-YesWeCan
As long as African Americans have leaders propogating the fact that the black community is automatically two steps behind (i.e. thinking they are living in a "white man's world") then nothing will ever change. If the prision population is 40% black, that doesn't require government intervention, it requires that we as African Americans start to take responsibility for our actions.
-Scott
i agree this interview was too soft on him. there was not much discussion of the Obama comment or the n-word. i understand that it's likely due to just trying to get past the situation. still i think it just made other groups not respect our leaders more because we still appear divided as a people including our leadership. all i can do is shake my head wondering if we will ever learn as a people to just come together even when disagree. disagree in private and work it out so that we stand united in public...progress people p

@ Michael:
Right on Michael! He tried to use the race card to circumvent the issue... But clearly based on these posts his people should be recommending find something else to do.

Why as we as Black People always making excuses for ourselves? I grew up in the,"Hood" raised by my mother. I graduated High School, joined the Marines, went to school and graduated from UPENN with a Master's in Business Management. I made it and was taught to respect people, not like these thugs today who show disrespect to everyone else, and embarrass our people as a whole. When are we going to stop blaming the white man for our problems and take responsibility???

Kwame Kiltpatrick in JAIL
Judge orders Kilpatrick to jailBy M.L. ELRICK • Free Press Staff Writer • August 7, 2008Judge Ronald Giles just sent Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to jail moments after the mayor pleaded for forgiveness and admitted he made an unauthorized trip to Windsor on city business."The first day you were before me, I thought I made it clear to you that this court comes first in everything," Giles said. "I do understand that you're under...pressure...but I have to look at how the system should be run and perceived by the public.""At the beginning of this case you were given every privilege that could be given to you with regard to travel," Giles said, adding that he later imposed restrictions after learning Kilpatrick had been abusing his privileges."At that time I made it perfectly clear ... don't come back ... ," he said.Court officials said Kilpatrick would remain in jail until he either posts the full $75,000 bond or until his lawyers can persuade a Wayne County Circuit Court judge to overturn the decision. But first, Kilpatrick would be taken to the 36th District Court detention area.Giles comments came after Kilpatrick told the judge he had been living under incredible pressure for the past 7 months."I don't believe that there is a person that's ever been through this process that respects it more than I do," Kilpatrick said, referring to the legal proceedings stemming from the 8 felonies ranging from conspiracy to perjury to misconduct in office to obstruction of justice filed against him in March."Last week was a tremendous wake-up call to me," he said, referring to Giles' rebuke last month after he allegedly assaulted law enforcement officials trying to serve a subpoena.Kilpatrick admitted violating the terms of his bond by traveling to Windsor without notifying the court. He said he was sorry."My life has been revolutionarily transformed and it's transforming in front of the eye of these media people who don't know me at all," he said, referring to what he called intense scrutiny. "Your honor, I ask for your forgiveness...it will never happen again."He said his sons were watching these proceedings because he asked them to. "I told them that I did something wrong," he said.Kilpatrick further said he was not "frolicking" in Windsor but trying to make a deal that would let him avoid laying off more than a thousand city workers."I apologize to the citizens as well, but mostly to you. It was never an affront to you," he said of the trip.Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Robert Moran said the mayor's pleas rung hollow."Now that he's caught, he's taking responsibility...he thought he got away with it," Moran said.Prosecutors had argued before Kilpatrick addressed the court that the mayor was not taking the case against him seriously."The defendant left the State of Michigan, left the country, without prior notice to the court," Moran said, referring to a recent trip to Windsor. "All you have to have him do is call me...he has my cell phone, he can call me anytime...we would never say the mayor of Detroit cannot travel for an emergency matter."Moran said he found out about the trip from the media."That is a flagrant violation of this court's order," Moran said. "At the very least we are going to ask the court to cut off all travel to the defendant...for business or personal, because he violated the very generous terms that this court has set up.""It's not serious to him that he's a criminal defendant," he added.Kilpatrick attorney James Thomas acknowledged that the mayor violated the terms of his bond, but said it was an emergency."Who was dying?" Giles asked."The City of Detroit was sick," Thomas said, adding that the mayor was trying to save a $75 million deal that would help balance Detroit's budget.Last month, Giles put new restrictions on Kilpatrick's travel after Wayne County law enforcement officials accused him of assaulting them as they tried to serve a subpoena. The judge also revoked the mayor's personal recognizance bond and required him to post $7,500 cash to remain free.Find this article at: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...EWS01/80807034

Authorities say in an attempt to stop the violence, a neighborhood on the Westside of Helena-West Helena is under a 24-hour, non-stop curfew that could be extended for days. It's a tale of two cities. The result of what police are calling a small gang turf war. Neighbors Mary Stevens, Flora Commons and Antone Johnson live in the middle of it. "They've been shooting for three or four nights," says Commons. "It's time to put a stop to all the crime. You can't sleep at night because people are shooting and you want to know where the bullet is going to go next," says Johnson. Mayor James Valley says the impacted area is violence-prone. So from South Sebastian to Fourth Street and Anderson to Garland Street, no one is allowed out. He says it's, "...to curtail some of the general mayhem we've been experiencing, particularly the gun shots," says Valley. "Nobody can walk down the street and be safe, that is, be free from police interference," says Valley. "I don't think it's right," expresses Stevens. Some neighbors say they're being unfairly punished for the crimes other people have committed. "They know exactly who's doing the shooting, the robbery, but it seems like we're never going to get any justice around here," says Stevens. "We got kids down here. They should lock up these young folks that have been doing the shooting; don't put us hostage or on lockdown," complains Commons. Assistant Police Chief Ronald Scott says since the curfew was implemented late Thursday afternoon, people are sleeping better. "We've taken some drugs off people, a couple of guns off people," says Scott. Authorities say that is the whole point. But the ACLU of Arkansas sent Mayor Valley a letter saying the curfew is unconstitutional.

L'Oréal: Get Réal
Why can't a powerful, talented African-American woman be celebrated for her natural beauty? L'Oréal claims they didn't change Beyonce's appearance, but who are they fooling? L'Oreal obviously wanted to make Beyonce look white.
The L'Oréal ad is disrespectful and dismissive to Black women. And L'Oréal's explanation is lame.
